Morbid obesity is a condition in which the person is overweight by a hundred pounds or more than what is his or her ideal weight. Being morbidly obese may cause some problems for some women who wish to be pregnant since this condition may sometimes affect the reproductive cycle of a woman. The effects of diabetes due to a combination of morbid obesity and pregnancy can be birth defects for the child and stillborn. Babies born to mothers with morbid obesity may be overweight due to the diabetes condition of the mother while others may have lower birth weight. For mothers, morbid obesity and pregnancy coupled with diabetes can cause preeclampsia, which is a condition where the mother suffers from early birth or bleeding. Poor eyesight can also occur due to the diabetic effect of morbid obesity and pregnancy. Giving birth or a couple of months before that, may be a problem for mothers with diabetes as this condition elevates the heart rate, glucose levels and blood pressure.
Morbid obesity and pregnancy are a poor combination which may need special care. There are now clinics nationwide that cater to the special needs of morbidly obese pregnant women. The combination of morbid obesity and pregnancy can cause complications that will need frequent monitoring by obstetricians and other professionals.
